first dental visit for child

"When should my child first go to the dentist?"

That’s a question a lot of parents ask us. You may have heard the saying, “First tooth, First Birthday, First dental visit!” According to the American Association of Pediatric Dentists it is recommended that a child’s first dental visit should be as soon as they get their first teeth or by a kid’s first birthday. Early dental care is very important, since as soon as your baby has teeth, he or she could get cavities. Starting your baby’s dental care early and being proactive can greatly contribute to keeping your child’s smile healthy for life!

How will my child react at their first dental visit?

Dr Levi Sorenson and his team want to make your child’s first visit memorable and fun! They will take extra care to make you and your child are as comfortable as possible. Our office is kid-friendly and is an environment to promote fun and there are a lot of distractions to help your child feel at ease.

What to expect at first dental checkup for my child

The first visit can be relatively short, depending on the kid’s age there will not usually be much treatment necessary. For a young child, to make them comfortable your pediatric dentist will have the parent hold their child on their laps while they examine the mouth. This is also called a knee-to-knee exam. All procedures are done in an age-appropriate manner and taking the child’s age and reactions into consideration.
